Ursula’s Paddington

Ursula’s Paddington project heralds a more romantic and personalised approach to hospitality-based interiors, with rich caramel tones, crisp silks and a distinct flavour of whimsy combined to offer an elegant dining room with unexpected elements of embellishment and intrigue.

Complementing the depth and saturation of colour, a more focused approach to furniture is employed; classic bistro style chairs are a strong graphic silhouette, and the combination of stained timber and rattan adds a natural and tactile element to the overall composition. Working with local designers, a bespoke approach to lighting and joinery creates a theatrical and textural backdrop. Sculptural folded metal in varying finishes bend and shape warm light that spills across the softly textured walls. Perera’s own oversized handmade plaster pendants create an intimate scene over dining tables, their fluted and undulating skirts adding a sense of movement and theatre. Ascending the stairs, a private dining room flooded with natural light and embraced in a soft periwinkle blue is a breath of fresh air for an intimate dining experience.

Conceived and executed under the limitations of Covid restrictions, this restaurant is a timely reminded that interiors always frame our lived experiences, and in order to be enlivened we must engage our other senses. Here, the white linened dining table is the stage and the interior provides a comforting, cocooning embrace offering a sense of beauty and delight that will endure for many years to come. The very personal and brave approach that Phil & Lis are shaping Ursula surely is the makings of a truly beloved ‘local’.
